Welcome to Traditional Weaving of New Mexico!

Hello, everyone, my name is Elizabeth Salazar.

My skills as a textile artist began to develop in me as a child among my family in Taos.  Several professional sewing jobs have come my way because of what I learned as a young person growing up.  I have painted and designed art objects for most of my adult life, and now I have been weaving here in Mora for seven years.  Just this year I opened the gallery: Casa Chacon.
Since I am a native northern New Mexican, I remember the beautiful textiles that my ancestors would create:  .......beautiful Spanish colonial rugs that displayed bountiful colors.  Through learning the process of creating beautiful works of art, I am able to keep alive traditions that are dear to my heart.
Through it all, my passion has gradually deepened for the art, culture and rich history of the special northern New Mexico mountain people that I love.
Weaving has always been a way of life in this land of ours, but has faded out with the passing years and modern culture coming in.  It is my quest to help revive the tradition of weaving in these parts.  I hope to be able to inspire the spirit and love of this wonderful craft by sharing what knowledge and experience I have gained with you.

A good view the many selections shown in our Gallery.
